WhaleSafe AI is an innovative marine conservation initiative hosted at the University of Haifa’s Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences that aims to prevent whale–vessel collisions. By integrating vessel-based AI, thermal imaging, computer vision, and radar technologies with real-time navigational data, the system detects whales directly from ships to provide intelligent risk assessments. Ultimately, this technology reduces whale mortality, enhances vessel safety, generates critical ecological data, and establishes a scalable model for AI-driven ocean conservation.
