School of Marine Sciences – CetAI – 2026

Ecosystems don’t collapse in a day. They wear down first—stress, disorientation, broken social ties—long before a species vanishes outright. Dolphins show this early because their whole social order runs on sound, and warmer, noisier oceans are already fraying it. We’ve only ever caught glimpses—a recording here, another weeks later—never enough to watch a population unravel in real time, which is why help usually arrives after the damage is done. CetAI changes that: continuous monitoring of a known dolphin population in Greece, run through AI built to track social breakdown as it happens, with the goal of setting real noise limits before more is lost.
